"English baccalaureate: a set of subjects which, if all gained at C or above, will give students an overarching qualification and certificate to match. The subjects are: English Lang, maths, 2 sciences, a modern foreign language and history or geography.

It is worth noting that to get the science element of the English Baccalaureate you either need to get an A*-C pass in core and additional science or you must take all of the three single sciences and get an A*-C pass in two of them. Both alternatives are offered at RPA, with the more able students taking GCSE in physics, chemistry and biology.
It is worth reading further about the predicted effects that the Ebac could have on pupils throughout the range of ability and whether it is indeed a laudable qualification for RPA to implement.
ReplyDeleteThe Ebac has not been well received in many quarters of the education world and it is said that it is an ill-thought-through, rushed policy. The Ebac is in part a league table measure. Schools are likely to neglect other subjects in favour of Ebac subjects to boost league table standing. There is also a question about whether the Ebac will really support students from poorer backgrounds to rise above academic challenges (such as attending top universities).
There is much written online about it and it is an ongoing discussion. As an Academy, RPA has the freedom to decide what they teach. Is the Ebac right for RPA?
